Jacob

Jacob “The Jeweler” Arabov is scheduled to enter a guilty plea on charges of making false statements to investigators in Detroit Federal Court today. Jacob was arrested in June of 2006 by federal authorities on charges that he allegedly conspired to launder as much as $270 million in drug profits for the Detroit based Black Mafia Family organization. According to the Associated Press, Jacob accepted the plea agreement offered by prosecutors, who in turn agreed to drop the more serious charges of money laundering. He is expected to face between 37 and 52 months in prison. Jacob is well known in the hip-hop community as a purveyor of fine jewelry to some of the biggest names in rap. He has been immortalized in lyrics from a slew of top artists such as The Notorious B.I.G., Nas and Kanye West.

Rap duo the Clipse has signed a 5-year, multimillion dollar contract with music mogul Rick Rubin at Sony/Columbia Records.

A&R rep Hip-Hop-who has helped guided the careers of Jay-Z and Kanye West and helped to broker the Clipse deal-said he personally sought out the pair. “I been a fan of the Clipse since I first heard them,” Hip-Hop said via statement. “And I ain’t a fan of too many things. Every song they come with it, lyrically. They were on a real short list when I got to Sony; I was going all the way to make this happen. We trying to be more of an artist-friendly company, and focus on artists we really love. I liked them three years ago, I liked them yesterday, and I feel like they can be a group with a future.”

Clipse - consisting of Virgina brothers Pusha T and Malice - first hit the airwaves in 2002 with their platinum debut, Lord Willin’. In late 2006, they dropped the critically acclaimed Hell Hath No Fury and have since released several volumes of the “We Got It 4 Cheap” mixtape series.

I guess we can finally discuss some of the tracks featured on the upcoming American Gangster album since it is leaking everywhere. We obviously can’t play the entire album, but I picked 4 standouts to discuss.

Probably the most anticipated track is the Success single featuring Nas. 3 words can easily describe it: Off The Hook! Jay definitely came through with the business on that track and literally “moved his bowels and shit on niggas”. Nas did what Nas always does and delivered as well. Shouts out to NO ID “The Mentor” for producing this track.

Success

Another highly anticipated song was the collaboration with Lil Wayne. Kind of strange to have a song with Weezy entitled “Hello Brooklyn”, but hey… i guess the title doesn’t matter if you get these two together on a track (I thought they had a lil beef brewing???). Anyway, this is being touted as the “heir to the throne’ type of thing. For some reason, I don’t think that Jay is passing the torch just yet!

We went to the new play brought to you by Marvelous Entertainment, Gossip, Lies, & Secrets tonight at the Civic Center in Atlanta. I guess the Gossip was that the play would include 2 of the most Beautiful Black Women in the world on one stage together. That could also be listed as the LIES because the Secret was that Lisa Raye did not appear at all tonight. Robin Givens took her place (which is not a bad thing because Robin is beautiful as well), but LISA RAYE is the HEADLINE. They had a HUGE picture of her outside of the Civic Center (even tonight when they knew damn well that she would NOT be performing). Even crazier is the fact that the role that Lisa Raye was scheduled to play was shorter than a 30 second commercial.

Someone needs to REFUND the entire TMA staff for this fiasco! Not only did we waste our MONEY on this, but we also wasted our TIME (and in our case.. Time is Money as well).

ATLANTA (AP) — A federal judge ordered the rapper T.I. released on $3 million bond Friday, but he must remain in home confinement while he awaits trial on weapons charges.
TI Granted Bond
U.S. Magistrate Judge Alan Baverman said the singer must remain under house arrest at a home in Henry County. He wasn’t more specific about the location. T.I., whose real name is Clifford Harris, will be monitored 24 hours a day by a private monitoring service that he must pay for.

He is restricted to the home except under limited circumstances, including medical appointments and court appearances. He cannot own any firearms and cannot have contact with any witnesses or informants in the case.

Observing that T.I has a team highly qualified attorneys, the judge said, “You shouldn’t do anything that will undermine their ability to represent you.”

Defense lawyer Ed Garland argued that based on the amount of money being put up, there’s no reason not to release his client.

Six-time Grammy-nominated platinum Soul R&B artist Anthony Hamilton sings about the realities of life – love, pain, poverty and politics. The Charlotte, North Carolina native uses the raw emotion in his lyrics and the gritty texture of his voice to tell soulful stories that connect with the experiences of other people. “I’m like a musical nanny”, he laughs. “When you put on my music, you can feel like you’re being taken care of, kids and parents too. All I know is that when people hear me, they’re hearing an old ‘familiar’ voice, something that sounds reminiscent of something, someone they heard back in the day. And all of them, the thugs, the young mothers, the old folks, the big sistas, they all encourage me, they tell me, ‘keep sayin’ it!!”.

A barber stylist by trade, Anthony Hamilton began singing in his local church choir at age 10 and spent his teen years making the rounds on the local nightclub and talent show circuit. At age 22, Anthony left Charlotte and headed to New York City, where he signed with Andre Harrell’s Uptown Records.

A New York Assemblyman has called on Universal Music Group to change the title of Nas’ upcoming album, ******, or lose $84 million in investments.

As reported earlier, Nas announced his album’s controversial title at a concert two weeks ago, and the news was met with stern disapproval from Reverend Jesse Jackson and The NAACP (The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People).

Despite the uproar caused by his announcement, Nas said he would not be changing the album’s title and claimed that his label Def Jam, a subsidiary of Universal, had not offered any resistance to the title.

According to The Brooklyn Paper, Fort Greene assemblyman Hakeem Jeffries has requested New York’s Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli ‘to withdraw the $84 million that the state pension fund has invested in Universal and its parent company, Vivendi’.

“[They are] profiting from a racial slur that has been used to dehumanize people of color for centuries,” said Jeffries. “It is time for Nas and other hip-hop artists to clean up their act and stop flooding the airwaves with the N-word.”
