Akon Charged in N.Y. Fan-Tossing Case

FISHKILL, N.Y. — Akon faces criminal charges after a fan said she suffered a concussion when the hip-hop star tossed a teenager off the stage and onto her in the concert crowd, police said Thursday.

Akon is scheduled to appear in Fishkill Town Court on Monday morning for arraignment on a misdemeanor charge of endangering the welfare of a minor, and second-degree harassment, a violation, according to a news release from Police Chief Donald Williams.

Audience members said that a spectator lobbed something at Akon and that the singer asked the crowd to point out the culprit. A security guard picked out a 15-year-old and sent him up to the stage, where Akon hoisted him onto his shoulders and flung him into the crowd.

The boy landed on Abby Rosa, who told the Poughkeepsie Journal she was later found to have a concussion. She said she has hired a lawyer and spoken to Fishkill police.

Celtics embarrass Knicks

BOSTON (AP) - The New York Knicks’ brief winning streak is history, and the Boston Celtics nearly made history ending it.

The Celtics cruised to their biggest victory since Larry Bird was in high school, beating New York 104-59 on Thursday night to send the Knicks to their third-worst loss and their second-worst scoring performance of the shot-clock era.

“Of course I am embarrassed. We lost by nearly 50 points,” Knicks guard Stephon Marbury said. “I’m angry. I’m always angry when I lose, but that was just flat-out embarrassing. To lose that bad was just ridiculous.”

It was the sixth-biggest win in Celtics history and the biggest since a 153-107 victory over the Baltimore Bullets in 1970 - five NBA titles ago.

KINGSPORT, Tenn. — Rapper Bryan “Birdman” Williams was among 16 people charged with possession of marijuana Tuesday after the RV they were riding in was pulled over by police for making an improper lane change.

Kingsport Police Cpl. Tim Horne said he stopped the vehicle after seeing it force a tractor trailer into the emergency lane on Interstate 81.

Horne said he could smell marijuana from inside the rented RV and located about a pound of marijuana in a trash can in the kitchenette after obtaining consent to search the vehicle.

Although Usher’s publicist was tight lipped about the sex of the baby, our sources tell us that it was indeed a boy…most likely to be named after the proud papa. The Grammy-winning R&B singer and his wife, Tameka Foster, welcomed a newborn, his publicist confirmed Tuesday, declining to say whether it was a boy or a girl. It’s the 28-year-old’s first child and Foster’s fourth.

Yes, I can confirm that Usher had a baby,” Patti Webster told The Associated Press in an e-mailed message. It wasn’t clear what day the baby was born.

The couple wed in a large, glitzy ceremony in early September after exchanging vows a few weeks earlier in a civil ceremony. The singer and Foster, who is 37, had called off their July 28 wedding amid reports that Foster had checked into a hospital because of problems with her pregnancy.

Washington Redskins defensive back Sean Taylor died Tuesday morning, a day after he was shot by an intruder at his home in Palmetto Bay.

He was 24.

The one-time standout with the Miami Hurricanes died at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, where he was airlifted after the shooting Monday morning.

Shot in the groin, he suffered massive blood loss from a severed femoral artery. Surgery conducted later in the afternoon could not save him, although he was able to squeeze a doctor’s hand, giving his family reason for hope.

Prosecutors in the federal weapons case against rapper T.I. say this isn’t the first time he’s been caught with machine guns and silencers as a convicted felon.

As reported by the Associated Press, the prosecution filed a notice today (November 26) with the U.S. District Court in Atlanta stating it’s plans to introduce evidence of three occasions when Tip unlawfully possessed guns, rounds, and a silencer, “all after having been convicted of a felony offense.”

The first time T.I. (born Clifford Harris) was caught with weapons was on December 22, 2001. The rapper was arrested in Atlanta for carrying a concealed 9 mm pistol. While he allegedly gave officers the name Douglas Morgan, that arrest did not result in a criminal conviction.

The second time, he wasn’t so lucky. On November 1, 2002 Tip was arrested in Henry County and later convicted for carrying a 10 mm pistol.

T.I.’s third arrest came on December 18, 2004, after officers searched his Fulton County home on a warrant and found a firearm with an attached silencer, large amounts of ammunition and photos of him posing with weapons. This incident did not result in a criminal conviction either.

Washington Redskins star safety Sean Taylor was in critical condition after he was shot at his Florida home Monday, police said.

Officers were dispatched to Taylor’s home at about 1:45 a.m. He was airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital, police Detective Alvaro Zabaleta said. He didn’t know what part of his body was injured.
