Jermaine-

This is incredible. Thank you for writing it.
Shit needed to be said.

from someone who works in the industry and is FED up.

remember- at the end of the day- when you decide NOT to buy a CD or even just a song- it's not just the artist you're hurting- but the hundreds of people who've stood behind that artist to make that album or song happen.

A. What Jermaine is thinking but refusing to say is that the average day consumer is an idiot. Before music was purchased by people who valued it for its substance. Nowadays a consumer will purchase an album for very stupid reasons. The "Artists," is affiliated with this rapper, has a good dance, pretends to be rich in every video, has some sort of fake background story which looks relatively gangster.

B. The marketplace is stagnant, when was the last time you heard of a new artist? I mean a new artist not another artist who is trying to emulate another artist. A artist who makes songs you wish your favorite artist thought of first. Why does every rapper claim to be a former drug dealer/killer, why does every rapper have to come from the same fucked up environment. Its talent out here, its just stuck trying to climb to the top of the ladder.

C. Music is subjective!!! That means what sounds good today may not sound god tomorrow, it also means what sounds good to you may not sound good to others. If anyone remembers there was a time that DMX, Lil Zane, Ashanti/Ja Rule, Master P, D4L, Franchise Boyz, 50 Cent etc and countless others were hot. These artist come and go but look at Curtis Mayfield, Denice Williams, Sam Cooke, Luther Vandross (Little Luther and Big Luther), Atlantic Starr, TuPac, OutKast, BIG... There will always be talent and good music as long as there are people there to rejuvenate and listen to it.

I'm a fan of GOOD music, and a listener and critic of average songs.

I got to agree with jd on this one...fair enough some albums that come out are garbage, but i think the listeners should just be more selective of what they listen too. You dont like, you dont buy...i remember when i was younger, going into a record store throwin on the head phones checkin out the album. If it was hot i bought, wack i dropped it back on the shelf. When i bought it, i remember tearin the plastic off, then lookin through the booklet checkin the producers, reading the special thanx and just listening start to finish to a bumpin album...got to bring that loving feeling back to hip hop...lmao maybe im just to old

JD...all I have to say on that is this though your point is valid.....the industry needs to stop putting out garbage albums(and you have been a part of that recently) and we will not just want singles...but the whole thing.....

What Jermaine Dupri seems to forget, is the years that music fans, especailly hip hop fans spent buying crappy albums. Albums with two bangers and 8 garbage songs and the obligatory ballad. Hip Hop fans are loyal but have been treated like trash buy the rappers they worship, why should you drive a Bentley and I ride the train, when I spent 17.99 of my hard earned money for your trash record? If you got a hit, then .99 sounds like a fair trade, stop trying to fool the public. Jay-Z don't need anymore of my money,

We finally got wise to you. And you should be happy for ITunes, it's the only thing that stops most people from just downloading it for free
