Well the news has finally broke… Jay Z has resigned today as President of Def Jam Recordings. It has been widely rumored for some time now that he is headed over to Sony to do some sort of Joint Venture. We’ll see if that comes to fruition.

He took over the reins at the famed hip-hop factory in 2005 shortly after he announced his brief retirement from recording. In announcing his departure, Jay said in a statement that it was time for him to “take on new challenges.”

During his two-year tenure, Jay-Z has signed the likes of Rihanna and Ne-Yo and overseen blockbuster releases by himself and Kanye West, eventually realizing that he didn’t want to be out of the rapping game for good.

He will continue to release his own music through his record label, Roc-A-Fella/Def Jam after his contract expires Dec. 31.

stoute Steve Stoute and Lisa Price

Pegasus Capital Advisors has become a partner in beauty brand Carol’s
Daughter, setting the stage for an investment-driven expansion that is
aimed at growing the business as much as tenfold over the next few
years.

Pegasus, based in Greenwich, Conn., has made available $50 million of
the group’s investment funds, said sources, allowing Carol’s Daughter to
open more stores, sharply focus its online platform and recruit
marketing and operational talent to build the brand’s infrastructure.
“The popularity of the multiethnic market has been long ignored, and it
is a huge opportunity,” said Steve Stoute, who is Carol’s Daughter’s
chairman, during an interview at his Manhattan offices. “Our partnership
with Pegasus gives us the opportunity to take my vision and Lisa’s
[Price, Carol’s Daughter’s founder] to another level.”

Kelly missed his Chicago hearing Wednesday after his tour bus was (get this) stopped by Utah police. According to his attorney, the bus log indicated that the bus driver did not have enough rest to hit the road and was ordered to sit tight for 8 hours. He has until tomorrow to show up in court… Let’s hope he shows up tomorrow.

DMX

Multi-platinum Hip-Hop star DMX has signed a worldwide recording deal with Bodog Music and is planning to release a new album titled Walk With Me Now and You’ll Fly With Me Later.

The new album from the Yonkers bred rapper will feature production by longtime producer Swizz Beatz as well as guest appearances from members on the Ruff Ryders roster.

“I’m thankful for the fact that Bodog believes in me, that we share the same vision and the fact that they see in me the same thing I see,” DMX said in a statement. “I’ll show you [Bodog Music] how it’s supposed to be done, and we’ll get to where we’re supposed to be. You got a dog for life.”

Bodog Music is a division of Bodog Entertainment, which producers the mixed-martial arts TV show Bodog Fight, as well as the worldwide Bodog Battle of the Bands competition, which awards the winning unsigned band with a $1 million dollar recording deal.

Other artists on the Bodog label include the Wu-Tang Clan, Warren G., My American Heart, Bif Naked, Neurosonic and others. “Bodog Music is rapidly becoming a big dog in the music biz,” said Bodog founder Calvin Ayre.
