Rap star Lil’ Wayne was in the Yuma County jail Wednesday after a vehicle search by the Border Patrol on Interstate 8 near Dateland turned up illegal drugs belonging to him, a spokesman for the Drug Enforcement Administration said.
Lil’ Wayne, whose real name is Dwayne Carter Jr., 25, of Miami, was booked into jail on charges of possession of dangerous drugs, possession of narcotics and possession of drug paraphernalia at 6 a.m. Wednesday, Yuma County Sheriff’s spokesman Capt. Eben Bratcher said.
“I can confirm that is Lil’ Wayne,” DEA spokeswoman Ramona Sanchez said.
Two unidentified members of Wayne’s group were also arrested on marijuana charges following the search of the bus carrying the group about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sanchez said.
The bus had stopped at a Border Patrol checkpoint in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 8 near Dateland when a Border Patrol narcotics detection dog indicated the presence of drugs, Sanchez said.
A search of the bus turned up 105 grams of marijuana, 29 grams of cocaine and ecstacy believed to be in Carter’s possession, Sanchez said.
Lil Wayne ran into a similar incident last year for felony possession of drugs in Idaho.
I don’t know how you guys feel about this, but it’s time these rappers stop letting themselves fall into this same trap. They are watching you… AT ALL TIMES. Know that and act accordingly!
