The Best Rapper Alive????
I saw this article last week and my initial thoughts were that a)it was well written, b)what the hell does TIME know about Rap? Like what exactly is their basis for naming ANYONE the best.. are they qualified to even judge?
But then this week we had a little mini family reunion.. and there were a bunch of teenagers (including my daughter, son, nieces, cousins, etc..) and they would bug out EVERY TIME LIL WAYNE WAS ON THE RADIO OR TV
Hmmmmmmm…. Wayne IS very popular right now.. he IS selling at a time when no one else seems to be… he IS creative and making his own path.. well damn.. maybe TIME magazine is onto something here

my question is this……how we gonna let Time dictate to US who is the greatest rapper alive is? Since when have they become the authority on Hip Hop? People trip me out with that. Of course they going to say that, they dont know Hip Hop. Please….that article holds no credibility. Yes its good ,Hip Hop is getting exposure, but for us to just sit up here and take that. We might as well just hand Hip Hop over to corporate america, because it dont belong to us anymore.
Lil wayne isn’t the best rapper alive. Maybe the most overrated rapper alive or most popular fake Blood that lies about his age.
But seriously, what does he so well besides putting out an abundance of material over some hot beats? I’ve never heard him get on a track with one of the greats out right now and give them the blues. On ‘Mr. Carter’ Jigga didn’t get outshined.
Who would you guys say is the Best Rapper Alive? I would have to go with Hov. Just for the overall package. But Jadakiss is very high on my list as well….

I scanned the article– and it’s not hot. Time isn’t on to anything. It was written for those who may have heard of Weezy but know nothing about him or very little. Just as the old school Vibe articles used to. They built his character in the beginning and then– in a drawn out way— told us that he got out of the game what he put into it.
Saying him being the best rapper alive is no longer debated if proof that they know little about rap. It’s more debated now that he’s on top that it was before. Also, kids and teens fall in love with a character on TV. I do give weezy props for “A Millie” being a mainstream record. I mean… its a freestyle record afterall.
But lets keep it all the way funky… listening to lil wayne songs will get you amped and saying Damn he’s good. But I also find myself saying… he’s be GREAT if he wrote his shit. Mr. Carter is def my shit… but how big of a fuck up was lil Wayne’s verse after Jay said “It’s your go…” SMH…
Yanno… I don’t think its Jay. I personally thought he was WEAK post “retirement” for Jay standards with the acception of “Hustlin Rmx” (that shit makes me didd-bop like back when Jay was untouchable) and a few others. Shit… I just started to like Hov again consistantly.
But then again, I don’t have a BEST rapper… one person… I have a group.
Song for song, Jay and Nas. There isn’t anyone else alive with the overall bodies of work that those 2 have. Got to give the nod to Jigga because he outshined Nas on the tracks they’ve done together ‘Sucess’ and that track off HHID with the “Godfather” sample. Jay’s “Grammy Family freestyle is one of the best ever. Other MC’s have a hot freestyle or song but then don’t put out quality cd’s or even mixtapes on a consistent basis. Andre 3000 has to be up there too, he may only drop 5 verses a year but those 5 will be in the top 30 verses of the year. Scarface has never disappointed me with his official releases, he’s gangsta rap at it’s best. In no particular order here’s the best of the rest. Fabolous is on my list but some of his commercial tracks tend to be so wack. Luda kills every feature he’s on but stopped checking for his cd’s after Chicken n Beer (was horrible) and saw him in a bullsh!t 15 minute concert and it was a literally a rap. Jada is NICE but doesn’t put out enough product. Lupe can spit too but his selection of beats and hooks leaves much to be desired. Was feeling Em til he started producing his own stuff and his subject matter could be better. Common can be a beast when he’s in the mood but the 2 songs that have leaked with Pharrell this year have been lacadasical(sp). Black Thought is monster as well.

All it’s good for is getting “ganked” anyways, it’s more cat’s jackin other bruthas jewelry and selling it back to em then rappers wearing it half the time. So dey stupid for even trying to floss like they hard…….
