…to make him understand his vision with his new artist, Dondria.

This past weekend I ran a post on Jermaine Dupri’s new artist Dondria Nicole AKA Phatfffat. I questioned whether or not he had somebody worth listening to or just another nameless singer who was going to fall by the wasteside. Well almost instantly after that post went up I was contacted by the music mogul himself requesting for me to come to his private studio so that he could set me straight on who this Dondria chick really is….

OutKast’s more subdued member Big Boi is set to premiere his ballet in Atlanta on April 10 with six performances in total. Titled big, the co-production along with the Atlanta Ballet will be choreographed by Lauri Stallings, and feature new music by Big Boi mixed in with standards like Verdi’s La Traviata.

OutKast pals, Khujo Goodie, Sleepy Brown, as well as Scar, Konkrete, Big Rube, C-Bone and Rock D will join the cast, while DJ Swift will act as music director.

About the production, Stallings said: “big is the place, event, and experience where we leave our inhibitions at the door, and move forward. big is an example of possibilities… a place for the senses to open, and be lifted, setting a new height for creativity and awareness towards ourselves and the people sitting right next to us.”

big will debut at the Fabulous Fox Theater on April 10 and run through April 13.

We recently caught up with Big Boi at his Stankonia studios and talked about things…

I am well versed when it comes to the music industry. Then I just started branching out and taking like freelance publicity gigs and started my own company a couple of years ago.

What is your company?

Avalon

I’m sure by now everyone has seen the new Boost Mobile Commercial featuring JD, Jeezy, and “The Funny Looking White Boy”… well we decided to go in and find out exactly who this guy is (he’s not what you think). The first time that I attempted to do the interview (via phone), I called and Mickey answered.. but he needed to do it later because he had to go to his daughters school for her birthday party. Hmmm.. this would be one of those times where you can insert the phrase: “don’t judge a book by it’s cover”… Turns out that you will say that alot after speaking with Mickey!

So… Mickey Avalon… You have been causing quite a stir on the internet ever since the commercial aired.. everyone is asking “Who the hell is that white boy at the end of the commercial?

Yeah… But this commercial is the short one, so I only have a few lines on there… but there is a longer one coming out where I have a whole verse, so people will be able to base things on more than how I look.. they can judge me on skills.

amanda

After speaking with Amanda Diva for 5 minutes, one could possibly jump to the (wrong) conclusion that she is indeed a real DIVA! It is in that 6th minute that you finally start to get it though… she isn’t a “Diva”, she is just strong willed and focused. Another observation is that she is extremely intelligent (she drops alot of quotable gems throughout our convo). Before we go into the interview, let’s learn a little bit about Amanda Diva:

On the professional side, I feel like I am a jack of all trades… I came into the music business through poetry, I started out on Def Poetry Jam and I ended up on Sirius Satellite Radio with my own radio show “Breakfast at Diva’s” every morning on Hip Hop Nation for 5 years. I used to be a VJ at MTV 2 and currently I am on VH1 (Best Week Ever, Best Songs of the 90’s, etc…). In addition to that, I used to write for AllHipHop.com and I currently write for XXL.

I’m West Indian so I am used to having like 10 jobs!

Rap duo the Clipse has signed a 5-year, multimillion dollar contract with music mogul Rick Rubin at Sony/Columbia Records.

A&R rep Hip-Hop-who has helped guided the careers of Jay-Z and Kanye West and helped to broker the Clipse deal-said he personally sought out the pair. “I been a fan of the Clipse since I first heard them,” Hip-Hop said via statement. “And I ain’t a fan of too many things. Every song they come with it, lyrically. They were on a real short list when I got to Sony; I was going all the way to make this happen. We trying to be more of an artist-friendly company, and focus on artists we really love. I liked them three years ago, I liked them yesterday, and I feel like they can be a group with a future.”

Clipse - consisting of Virgina brothers Pusha T and Malice - first hit the airwaves in 2002 with their platinum debut, Lord Willin’. In late 2006, they dropped the critically acclaimed Hell Hath No Fury and have since released several volumes of the “We Got It 4 Cheap” mixtape series.

Six-time Grammy-nominated platinum Soul R&B artist Anthony Hamilton sings about the realities of life – love, pain, poverty and politics. The Charlotte, North Carolina native uses the raw emotion in his lyrics and the gritty texture of his voice to tell soulful stories that connect with the experiences of other people. “I’m like a musical nanny”, he laughs. “When you put on my music, you can feel like you’re being taken care of, kids and parents too. All I know is that when people hear me, they’re hearing an old ‘familiar’ voice, something that sounds reminiscent of something, someone they heard back in the day. And all of them, the thugs, the young mothers, the old folks, the big sistas, they all encourage me, they tell me, ‘keep sayin’ it!!”.

A barber stylist by trade, Anthony Hamilton began singing in his local church choir at age 10 and spent his teen years making the rounds on the local nightclub and talent show circuit. At age 22, Anthony left Charlotte and headed to New York City, where he signed with Andre Harrell’s Uptown Records.
